Kim is passionate about Physiotherapy and has completed a wide variety of continuing education courses.  She is certified in Medical Acupuncture through the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute and is certified in Gunn Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS) through the Institute for the Study and Treatment of Pain (ISTOP).  She has completed her Level 3 manual therapy courses through the Canadian Orthopedic Division and 3 levels of visceral manipulation through the Barral Institute.  Kim has also taken a series of courses looking at whole body integration and optimal function and performance through Discover Physiotherapy.  Other courses completed have focused on pelvic floor function and whiplash associated disorders. Kim is an active member of the Physiotherapy Association of British Columbia (PABC).

Kim Lobb has a special interest in thoracic (rib cage) injuries and pain and its relationship to neck and shoulder function.  She also enjoys treating chronic foot conditions.  Kim believes that a Physiotherapists role is not just in treating pain, but in helping those who are active optimize performance.   Through our expertise in biomechanics we are able to help patients who are finding they are working harder or feeling older move more efficiently.

Visceral Manipulation was developed by French Osteopath, Jean-Pierre Barral. At optimal health, the relationship between the organs (viscera) and structures of the body (muscles, membranes, fasciae and bones) remains stable despite the body’s endless varieties of motion. But when one organ can’t move in harmony with its surrounding viscera due to abnormal tone, adhesions or displacement, it works against all the body’s organs and structures. This disharmony creates fixed, abnormal points of tension that the body is forced to move around. That chronic irritation, in turn, paves the way for disease and dysfunction. Visceral Manipulation (VM) is a gentle hands-on therapy that works through the body’s visceral system (the heart, liver, intestines and other internal organs) to locate and alleviate these abnormal points of tension throughout the body. VM employs specifically placed manual forces that work to encourage the normal mobility, tone and motion of the viscera and their connective tissues. Trained practitioners use the rhythmic motions of the visceral system to evaluate how abnormal forces interplay, overlap and affect the normal body forces at work. These gentle manipulations can potentially improve the functioning of individual organs, the systems the organs function within, and the structural integrity of the entire body.
Kim Lobb is experienced and is well qualified to provide physiotherapy treatment for Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) disorders, also known as TMJ syndrome. This term refers to either acute or chronic inflammation of the temporomandibular joint, which connects the mandible(jaw) to the skull. Symptoms associated with TMJ disorders may include; Jaw pain or tenderness of the jaw, biting or chewing difficulty or discomfort, clicking, popping, or grating sound when opening or closing the mouth, neck and shoulder pain, dull, aching pain in the face, reduced ability to open or close the mouth, ear aches, headaches, tinnitus and migraines.

Kim has completed the Selective Functional Movement Assessment Program. The SFMA is a comprehensive way to assess how your whole body moves. Identifying these movement dysfunctions can isolate the true cause of injury or prevent injuries from occurring!

Kim was a member of UVic Vikes women’s basketball team from 1998-2002, winning a national championship in 2000.  She is currently a part time assistant coach with the Camosun College women’s basketball team, a volunteer ski instructor for athletes with disabilities with the Whistler Adaptive Sports Program and a member of the Victoria competitive coed ultimate frisbee team, the Victoria Skysharks.
