Functional Movement Systems Certified
Certified Personal Trainer
Larry Muir completed a BSc. in Kinesiology at the University of Victoria. He has a strong passion for Kinesiology and sought numerous volunteer experiences at local clinics and adapted fitness gyms throughout his university degree. During this time, several Kinesiologists mentored him. With a broad-minded approach, he continually draws upon experiences and knowledge obtained from working with each of them in his practice.
Many years of helping individuals overcome injuries and fitness barriers cultivated his passion for client education and helping people feel happy and healthy. He has experience working with sport, motor vehicle and workplace injuries, as well as geriatric populations.
As an avid basketball player, Larry has sustained a myriad of injuries, which developed his passion for injury rehabilitation and prevention.
Larry strives to create a motivating environment that fosters both enjoyment and achievement. Because active rehab and fitness should be a continual, lifelong pursuit, he is driven to give his clients the tools to succeed independently by developing movement knowledge, awareness, and proficiency.
Larry keeps physically active with fitness training and participation in a variety of sports. He takes the long way home on his bicycle after work.
Larry is trained and experienced in utilizing the Functional Movement Screen (FMS) for his clients in Victoria. It is a dynamic assessment tool, evaluating multiple body segments in fundamental movement patterns. FMS evaluates the quality of 7 fundamental movements and provides quantitative data that allows for the provision of individualized corrective exercise programs. This assessment tool identifies individuals at risk of injury and also qualifies them to perform specific movements. FMS identifies faulty movement patterns and imbalances allowing for the development of corrective strategies to help in the creation of a customized treatment plan.
Larry is a certified Osteofit instructor. Osteofit is an exercise, education and falls prevention program for individuals with osteoporosis, low bone density or who are at risk of fractures and falls. It is based on the latest research from the BC Women’s Hospital +Health Centre.
